For the Centenary year the golfing profile of the club will be given a boost by the inclusion of some prestigious competitions in the calendar. On May 12 we will be hosting the Captains & Secretaries outing. This is a very high profile outing where the current Captain and Secretary of a large number of clubs attend for a competitive but none the less social day. It will give us the opportunity to show our course off to representatives from other clubs who may not yet have had the pleasure. From May 27 to 29 we will host the ILGU as they run the Midlands Senior and Junior Championships. The cream of lady golfers from the midland region will do battle with the challenges of Garryhinch. Following the success of the Irish Girls Close Championship in 2004 it is a mark of the esteem we are held in by the ILGU that we have been chosen to host a high profile event yet again. At the end of July and start of June we will host a sanctioned GUI event in the shape of the Leinster Youth Amateur Open Championship. This is sure to be a spectacle of high class golf by the best underage male golfers in the province. Our final centenary golfing event has yet to have a date confirmed. We will be hosting a PGA of Ireland sanctioned Pro-Am where professionals from around the country will join forces with a team of three amateur players in a new event for Portarlington. Details on this event will be issued once we have dates confirmed. In addition to the competitions we will be hosting we will be continuing with our own competitions with the possibility of hosting an interclub competition for surrounding clubs also. There is much further work required in this area and updates on progress will be posted here and on the club newsletter “In the Swing”.
