PORTARLINGTON LADIES END 2004 ON A HIGH NOTE



The 2004 golfing season has ended on a high for the Ladies at Portarlington Golf Club.

In addition to winning the Laois Shield the Ladies have won the Midland Shield which was played during September in Baltinglass. This is their 3rd time to win this competition. The team members were Bridie Higgins, her daughter Maeve McEvoy, Maureen Cribbin and Gemma O'Sullivan.

This year also the Laois Junior Girls Perpetual Cup was won by 15 year old Marian Kennedy'. Marian, partnered by Dearbhladh Walsh, who isonly 12 years old, came second in the School Girls Championship.

The future of Ladies golf in Portarlington seems assured with such young talent emerging.

Portarlington Golf Club tops in Laois Shield

Portarlington Lady golfers are celebrating success in this years Laois Shield. Following a series of competitions, which were played during August and September in Mountrath, Portarlington and Rathdowney golf courses the Portarlington ladies emerged victorious.
The Laois Shield began in 1971 and is now in its 34th year. Participating clubs include Abbeyleix, The Heath, Rathdowney, ,Mountrath and Portarlington.
Ann Bates Lady Captain extended her congratulations to the winning team.
